ITMA/11/2008/ 1st August 2008
Dear Sir,
Kindly refer to our Circular No. 110/2008 and our letter No. ITMA/11/2008/574 dated the 18th July 2008 on the above subject. [See Below].
We had requested all members and council members even through e-mail to confirm per return if they are interested to contribute Rs. 1, 00,000/- [ONE LAKH]for getting completed the report on Power and Distribution Transformers supplied earlier during the last 5 years and now required to be manufacturers as per Government of India’s 11th plan period.
The response has not been encouraging, as only couple of members has indicated their desire which is not sufficient to Outsource for the assessment job. I would request that at least 30-40 senior and large manufacturing plant MDs [including Executive Council members] should come forwarded immediately so that this long standing requirement of members is fulfilled for the good of industry at large by placing order on the consultants.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,

Dear Sir,
The 11th plan envisages a capacity addition of about 80,000 MW with matching Transmission and Distribution network involving an investment of approx. 1,50,000 crores or even more. Under APDRP, an amount of about Rs. 2,000/- crore has been released as incentive to Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal by the G. O. I. Under RGGVY, 1.15. lakhs un-electrified villages and supply connections to 2.34 crores BPL households have been slated with approved capital subsidy of Rs. 2,800 corores during the 11th plan period. From the above it is very evident that the requirements of Power & Distribution transformers of 765/400/220/132/66-33/11/.4 KV level are tremendous confronting a challenging job for all involved in the transformer and allied industry.
Till date there had never been any authenticated assessment of past/future demand and purchase pattern of transformers by Central/ State, PSUs, SEBs, Utilities, Gencos, Transcos , Discoms and Private Industryin the country which should guide the ITMA members to gear themselves both technically and financially for the massive programme embarked upon by G. O. I to provide supply to all i.e. Domestic, Commercial, Agriculture and Industrial Sectors and particularly to Rural segment both in quality, quantity at reasonable cost. The subject matter had been under discussion with Executive Council of for the last 2 years and ultimately it has been decided that the work of assessment should be outsourced.
Accordingly a consultancy company of International repute is going to be commissioned to carry out this assessment for providing the study/report for our members so that they are able to organize their capacity, ability to meet the challenge for producing transformers for the ultimate goal set by Government of India. In order to defray the cost of consultancy fee, ITMA would like to know from the interested members if they shall contribute rupees Rs. 1,00,000/-each. The report is likely to be ready within 3 to 4 months which will contain all necessary information with regard to procurement plan of all type of transformers starting from Single Phase/Three Phase Distribution Transformers to biggest unit of 765KV Power Transformers in the country. Kindly intimate per return your confirmation with requisite amount so that the job is assigned to the consultancy firm.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
